Geh BITTE weg!

As I sit here having my daily down time (have to enjoy it these last couple of weeks!) on the computer, Claire is still talking herself to sleep.

"Geh BITTE weg!" she just said, emphasizing the BITTE! (Go away PLEASE!) Well, I don't know whom she is telling to go away, but I'm happy that at least she's using her manners to tell them to leave. She's even got the kind tone down! ;)

It's the simple things in life...and life is such a blessing! (It's always a blessing, but I'm thankful that God has helped me to realize this even more lately.) I'm so ready to meet our new little one, but am still enjoying this time we have as a family of three. The weather is beautiful today, so I think we'll enjoy another walk as a family when Claire wakes up and Matt gets home.

  1. You're expecting? Congratulations! I hope you're feeling well. When are you due?

It sounds like Claire's German has really taken off--how wonderful!

Remind me how/why you decided to raise her bilingually? Are you both non-native German speakers? Do you have a good support network for both languages?

  2. Hi Sarah! Thank you! We're due November 7th and I'm still feeling pretty good. :)

My dad was born in Germany and grew up in the U.S. from the toddler years on, but spoke German in the home. I grew up hearing German, but never learning it until high school. I studied it throughout college and abroad. I love travel and meeting people from diverse cultures and realize what a benefit speaking two languages can be. Really though, I have an emotional connection to all things German because I was really close to my grandfather and spoke it with him as soon as I was able.

My husband took a few semesters in college, so understands some of what we're saying. My dad and aunt speak German with Claire, but that's the extent of our support system! I wish it was better, but at least we have relatives to visit in Germany when the time is right. :)

And that's the short version of our 'why.' Thanks for asking! :)
